Renowned playwright David Mamet's incendiary RACE is set to detonate on stage in Edmonton. The play follows three attorneys, two black and one white, preparing to defend a wealthy white executive charged with the rape of a black woman. As they grapple with preparing their case, deeply buried prejudice explodes to the surface. RACE exposes tragic lies, raising painful questions concerning how differences in color, gender, ethnicity and class breed denial, silence, division and resentment. Mamet's rapier wit and hard-hitting style offers up an evening of high-voltage drama, a gripping legal whodunit, fraught with plot twists keeping audiences glued to their seats and guessing until the final curtain – powerful, provocative and disturbing.
