They say that Alberta has two seasons; winter and road construction. They forgot about Festival Season. Make the most of your summer by volunteering at one of the many festivals or sporting events. The St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you. Be a part of one of the most popular sprint triathlons in Alberta, boasting a long history of multisport fun. Volunteers needed to direct traffic as road marshals for the bike and run, to help keep athletes safe. You will receive a logo baseball shirt and be entered in a draw for a free bike and a $500 travel voucher. Event takes place at Fountain Park Pool, Sunday, Aug. 13.

Do you love to read? Share your passion with other volunteers and a small group of residents in a quiet, private area as you take turns reading stories, telling jokes or just talking about life! Your assistance is also needed to help return residents to their rooms after the group has had their time together. Times will be based on volunteer availability, but most likely will be evenings and weekends. Minimum age to volunteer is 14.

They’re back! The food trucks return to St. Albert Grain Elevator Park to serve up delicious food on Friday, Aug. 25. Your help is needed to keep the event looking clean by monitoring the garbage and recycling bins. This event takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Shifts are only two hours, and volunteers get a food voucher to try some goodies from the food trucks! Must be 16+.

Will you be between the ages of two and four months of age in October? Start family volunteering early, as you and your parent visit a St. Albert elementary school classroom to help children learn about empathy and getting along with each other. You will assist a trained facilitator who will lead the discussion with the class. This program needs a commitment of a one-hour visit each month from October 2017 to June 2018.

Join Team Diabetes as a volunteer for the Edmonton Marathon. The marathon course is an amazing flat and fast one and is greatly supported with many excited and enthusiastic spectators and volunteers, just like you! Your assistance is needed in many areas of this event that takes place on Sunday, Aug. 20. This is a fun and unique way to show your support for over 300,000 Albertans living with diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Do you love working with little children? You are needed to help with this program that brings in mothers, fathers, and grandparents with their little toddlers. This is an opportunity for them to socialize and play together. You will be there to help them have fun. This role is once a week from September to June and is every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Do you have a passion for event planning and fundraising? Someone who wants to positively impact cancer care and research in Canada? Help to maintain a Terry Fox Community Run in St. Albert by becoming the run organizer. This is a turn-key event that can be a simple community event or an off-the-charts national success story for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Do you have a passion for arts and culture? This festival needs you to help maximize Amplify’s awesome-ness. This festival is devoted to producing a welcoming, accepting, and inspiring atmosphere and you would be a huge part of creating those positive vibes. Help them out at the café, feed their cool artists in artist hospitality, or help as an activity assistant! Amplify is happening Oct. 13 and 14. Minimum age is 12.
