Two St. Albert teams are competing for medals at the Alberta Soccer Association Tier 3 women’s championship this weekend at Shouldice Fields in Calgary.

Mavericks 09 of the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League are the defending champions and the Impact division 3A team is the Edmonton District Soccer Association’s No. 1 seed in Tier 3.

The six-team draw kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday and the first match for the Impact (15-1, 72 GF/13 GA) is against the Calgary No. 2 seed.

Mavericks 09 (14-0, 108 GF/ eight GA), winners of 34 consecutive matches since losing the 2013 SAWSL division one final, will play the No. 1 or No. 3 Calgary seeds at 9 a.m. Saturday

The Mavericks and Impact also have matches on tap Sunday.

The gold and bronze finals are 9 a.m. Monday.

GSE (Green Street Elite) will carry the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League banner at the Alberta Soccer Association Tier 3 championship this weekend in Calgary.

GSE, 13-0-1 (41 GF/nine GA) this season as the three-time defending SAMSL champion, kicks off provincials Saturday against the Calgary No. 2 seed at 11:30 a.m. at the Calgary Soccer Centre.

Sunday’s games at Shouldice Fields start at 10 a.m. against the Lakeland rep and 4 p.m. against Kosova FC, the Edmonton District Soccer Association’s No. 1 seed. Kosova finished first in Tier 4 Virk division at 11-2-1 (58 GF/13 GA) and was 5-0 (14 GF/three GA) in the playdowns.

The gold and bronze finals are 3 p.m. Monday at Shouldice Fields.

GSE is 1-8 in three trips to provincials in the last four years.

The following are the latest provincial results of note for the St. Albert Impact youth teams at the Alberta Soccer Association championships.

The U16 Tier 3 (Jones) males repeated as gold medallists.

The U16 Tier 1 (Bourbonnais) females were awarded silver and the Fair Play Award. The final was decided on penalty kicks after a 30-minute overtime.

The U16 Tier 2 (Herlein) and U14 Tier 1 (Kindzierski/Jahns) females won bronze.

The U14 Tier 3 (Murray) females and U14 Tier 2 (Jepsen) males received Fair Play Awards.

Prestige Worldwide is the front-runner to reach the semifinals in the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League after kicking off the round-robin playoffs with two wins.

Prestige, a new team this year comprised of former Blues FC players, finished tied for fourth in the SAMSL table at 6-7-1.

The top two finishers in the five-team draw advance to the Sept. 15 to 16 semifinals against GSE (13-0-1) and SV Spurs (8-5-1) at Riel Park.

The Sept. 20 finals are 1 (gold) and 3 p.m. (bronze) at Victoria Soccer Club.

Magnitude FC (1-1 and 5-5-4 in league play), Chester City (1-0 and 6-5-3), SA City (0-1 and 1-11-2) and SA United (0-2 and 3-9-2) are also competing in the round robin.

The third of five round robins in the playoffs were played Tuesday but scores were unavailable at press time.
