This is a year to celebrate for both Alberta College of Massage Therapy (ACMT) and the Massage Therapy community of Alberta.

ACMT is celebrating 15 years of positive growth and evolution as one of Albertas’ leading educational institutions! Since 2001 we have committed to our Mission, “To Passionately Educate Canadas’ Next Generation of Health Care Professionals”. This celebration is a reflection of the dedication and excellence the ACMT Instructors provide to each and every student in their classrooms. ACMT is student-centered, and this approach to educating future generations of RMT’s fosters quality treatments for Albertas’ public health.

The massage therapy community in this province is also celebrating bold advancements towards Regulation pursued this year! All three massage therapy associations in Alberta have united as a like-minded coalition striving towards Regulating Alberta over the last 2 years; culminating in the presentation of an official application to the Ministry of Health in early summer. Today in Canada there are 4 Regulated provinces, and in the not too distant future, the Alberta massage therapy community envisions being the 5th.

Regulation of massage therapy brings a wide spectrum of benefits for Alberta as a whole. Below is a listing to highlight a few of these benefits:

  • Education will be ‘standardized’ throughout the massage colleges of Alberta. Regulated provinces are mandated to follow a curriculum standard, which is based on the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice to Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapy at Entry-to- Practice document (PCPI’s for short). ACMT is proud to be offering the standards outlined in the PCPI’s already to our students; we are prepared for Regulation!
  • Regulation leads towards enhanced public awareness and education surrounding the massage therapy scope of practice. People will understand how massage therapy improves their health, conditions and activities of daily living much more fluently then they do presently.
  • Insurance companies will be confident their members are ‘legitimate’ RMT’s and the public will be protected from ‘parlour massages’.

In summary, a very exciting year for ACMT upcoming students, alumni and RMT’s across Alberta. Join us in the celebration of these achievements and successes!

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about massage therapy, our college, and Regulation any time you connect with us.
