Have you ever wondered if online learning is right for you? Here’s what graduates from University of Calgary Continuing Education have to say about their recent online learning experiences.

The Flexibility is great!

Alan Perkins worked in marketing for several years when a new position prompted him to refresh his writing skills. A busy family man, he chose to enroll in an online program, the Certificate in Professional Writing specializing in Marketing and Public Relations.

“For me, the best thing was the flexibility. It really took the pressure off, not having to go to a regular weekly class,” he says. “The quality of the teaching and the course content was terrific… the instructors did a great job engaging the students online.”

Technically, it’s easy!

Oscar Vee recently graduated with a Teaching Second Language Certificate. “Things have really improved technically since I last studied online,” he says. “I was apprehensive at first as I was studying from Asia, but I found the programs to be user-friendly and accessible.”

The virtual classroom spans the globe!

Shannon Giroux-Wong had never tried online learning when she decided to enroll in UCalgary’s Career and Academic Advising Certificate.

“It turned out to be an evolution in my learning, and it was very interesting to be sharing a learning journey with people from all over the world.”

Great learning builds confidence!

Shellen Thomas enrolled in the Certificate in Adult Learning specializing in Workplace Learning at the same time that she was getting her start as a competitive weightlifter. “June one year later, I found myself doing my school work in Cyprus while competing at the World Master Weightlifting Championships,” she says. “That year, I won Silver.. I truly believe if I hadn’t started the two journeys at the same time, I would not have been as successful in either pursuit. Having success in the cirtual classroom affected my confidence in my sport, and that in turn gave me greater confidence in the classroom… Now, I use my education every day and in my athletic career.”
