Nothing shows a library’s appreciation for its volunteers as much as a good cup of coffee, public support and row upon row of neatly stacked cats on the library shelves.
Yes, cats. Tomorrow evening, the Morinville Community Library is purrr-oudly inviting one and all to thank its volunteers and offer a few loving strokes to some adorable and adoptable cats too.
Truly, there is no shortage of feline friends looking for new families to find them.
“Business is booming. It’s busy,” said Elyse Prince, the practice manager at the Morinville Vet Clinic. “’Tis the season for puppies and kittens and vaccines, and also lots of strays. We have lots of cats that need to be adopted so this Cat Café is perfect timing for us.”
The clinic was approached by the library to see if it would be interested in offering adoptable cats (and one dog) for the event. She figured that the Cat Café concept had clearly caught on after a few special events in Edmonton and a newly established permanent café on Whyte Avenue too. “Purrr-haps a small town like Morinville could have its own too?” she thought.
“I was happy to help out, and help share the kitties’ profiles and their faces and hopefully find them a good, loving forever home.”
This means that there will be some extra special four-legged visitors Thursday evening and they will undoubtedly be purrr-using through the bird, mice and fish catalogue. That, or simply lying around on whatever books people are trying to read at the time. If you have allergies, you will probably want to call ahead to have your items put aside for you.
As for Prince, she is pleased to help spread awareness that the clinic has animals available for adoption. There will be a few other things involved too, like food, games and prizes. Anything else goes, she says.
“I’m showing up with cats and litterboxes and water. From what I understand, they’re just to be roaming around with everybody attending, rubbing up against legs and giving head bonks.”
The event runs tomorrow evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Morinville Community Library is located at 10119 100 Ave. Call 780-939-3292 or visit www.morinvillelibrary.ca for more information.
