St. Albert Theatre Troupe auditions
Right on the heels of the Fringe Festival, St. Albert Theatre Troupe is keeping the momentum going with auditions for its season opener.
Director Katie Elliott has taken charge of Looking, one of playwright Norm Foster’s comedic takes on relationships. Two couples in search of love and the right person jump through the hoops of 21st century romances.
Looking, a dinner theatre production, runs three weekends from Nov. 6 to 22 at the Kinsmen Hall on Riel Drive.
Elliott is searching for two male and two female actors in the 30 to 60 age-range. Auditions will consist of cold reads with scripts made available to actors.
Monologues, no longer than two minutes, are encouraged but not mandatory. Actors are also requested to submit a biography and a headshot (if available).
The tryouts will be held Sunday, Aug. 24 starting at 2 p.m. and Aug. 25 starting at 7 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall.
Auditions are made by appointment. Contact Elliott at email@example.com or through the St. Albert Theatre box office at 780-222-0102.
Newcomers as well as stage veterans are welcome to audition. Additional positions in set construction, lighting, costumes, props and backstage technical activities are needed.
Launching adult theatre classes
It’s a first. The City of St. Albert’s department of culture is offering two adult theatre classes in its fall roster.
Broadway or Bust is a musical theatre class and Act Up! is an improv class.
“This is a cool tie-in to the city’s other theatre programs,” said Janice Flower, artistic director of St. Albert Children’s Theatre and the City of St. Albert’s performance arts co-coordinator.
“We would like to open a few doors and grow the program. It would be similar to the children’s theatre, more on the musical side.”
She explains that adding adult programs would not change the function of the children’s theatre.
“They would be separate. They would add and enhance what we already have, and quite frankly, it would serve an area that we are not serving right now,” Flower said.
Both programs run from Monday, Sept. 22 to Dec. 1. Cost is $155. Call 780-459-1585 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
