New concession at arenas
Skybox Express, already in operation at Servus Place, has been picked by the city to provide food and concession services at the Akinsdale/Kinex arenas.
A news release from the city notes the contract is for an initial term of five years, and starts Sept. 1.
The announcement comes after proposals were submitted in June. The release said the choice was made on a range of criteria, including experience, menu, rent and references.
The menu will contain at least 20 per cent healthy choices, with healthy being determined by Alberta Health Services guidelines.
What this represents is a positive change to our business model, said Mayor Nolan Crouse in the release.
Animal bylaw open house
Residents who would like more information on the upcoming implementation of the new animal bylaw can attend an upcoming open house.
At the open house, to be held on Aug. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Progress Hall in the Arden Theatre, people can talk to municipal enforcement officers and other city staff about the bylaw.
The bylaw, which was controversial when it was drafted last year, has a few major changes, including the requirement for dogs to be on leash everywhere except designated off-leash areas.
Dangerous dogs will be determined by behaviour instead of breed.
Dog defecation must always be picked up and placed in a garbage can, and people must carry extra bags and show them to an officer if asked.
The bylaw takes effect Sept. 1.
