It’s day two for the Baseball Alberta peewee AAA Tier I provincials at Legion Memorial Park.
The host St. Albert Cardinals play the Sherwood Park Athletics at noon and the Okotoks Dawgs at 7 p.m. to wrap-up the pool A round robin.
The opening ceremonies for the midget, bantam and peewee Tier I tournaments start at 6 p.m.
Sunday, if there are no tiebreakers, the top two teams in pools A and B meet in the 9 a.m. and noon crossover semifinals and the final is 3 p.m.
The tournament opener for the Cardinals was Friday night against the Red Deer Braves but the score was unavailable at press time.
Pool B consists of the Spruce Grove White Sox, Calgary Cubs, South Jasper Place Jays and Fort McMurray.
The Alberta champion advances to the Aug. 22 to 26 nationals in London, Ont. and the runner-up goes to the Aug. 15 to 18 westerns in Altona, Man.
The Cardinals are gunning for their first provincial title since 2006.
The Red Birds were 31-7 overall before provincials and were ranked first in the provincial seeding round at 18-3.

The Cardinals carried a 26-9-1 overall record into provincials, including a 13-5-1 mark in the Baseball Alberta standings for third place. South Jasper Place finished first at 18-1 and Clive was second at 16-3.
The St. Albert Senior Cardinals start a new season next week in the opening playoff round in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association.
The Cardinals are expected to play the Westlock Red Lions in a best-of-three series but dates and times were unavailable at press time.
The Cardinals finished league play in second place at 11-5-1 after losing three games in four days this week and Westlock placed third at 10-5.
Monday the Cardinals dropped a 7-1 decision to Westlock at Legion Memorial Park. Starting pitcher John Spaans allowed only two runs in four-plus innings for the home team.
Tuesday the Cardinals were blanked 3-0 by the Spruce Grove Eagles (7-6) in St. Albert. Dave Edwards turned in a strong performance on the mound while going six innings but the Cardinals struggled offensively.
The Eagles will face the first-place Fort Saskatchewan Athletics (12-2-1) in the playoffs.
Thursday the Cardinals fell 13-3 to the Edmonton Heat (6-11) at Footz Field.
The second playoff round goes Aug. 18 to 26 at Legion park.
The St. Albert Tigers are huge underdogs in the best-of-three Sunburst Baseball League semifinal against the undefeated Red Deer Riggers.
The Tigers finished fourth in the five-team standings at 6-14 after losing 4-3 in 10 innings to the second-place Fort Saskatchewan A’s (11-9) Wednesday at Legion Memorial Park.
The Riggers, last year’s senior AAA provincial champions and the Alberta reps at nationals later this month, are 19-0.
Game one is Tuesday in Red Deer and game two is Wednesday in St. Albert. If needed, game three is Friday in Red Deer. Start times are 7:30 p.m.
