Photo contest an invitation to explore

It’s not a race around the world.
But with the Amazing Race Canada moving along in its second season, a couple of summer interns at the local visitor centre and the farmers’ market have thought up their own scavenger hunt.
This Saturday, the Amazing Day St. Albert photo contest will give visitors and residents alike an opportunity to visit 10 places in the city where they will have to take pictures of themselves as they complete small tasks.
People can then submit those photos on social media or by email for a chance to win one of three gift baskets.
“It’s really meant to be an awareness builder for St. Albert,” said Lynda Moffat, president and CEO of the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce.
“I think it’s really going to be fun.”
Photo challenges include identifying the person in the middle of the mural at the Musée Héritage Museum, sketching an impression from a piece of art at the Art Gallery of St. Albert and posing with a teddy-bear at Cloud Nine Pajamas.
Participants will also take pictures as they pick an apple from a tree behind the library and use their hands to copy the time on the Perron Street clock tower.
Moffat said she hopes a lot of people will participate and perhaps discover places in St. Albert they have never visited before.
“It’s great to send people all over the place and have them realize what’s there and what (these places) are all about,” she said.
“I really think some of the photographs should be amazing.”
The contest runs from July 19 to midnight on July 20.
All photos must be sent to email@example.com or be posted to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with #amazingdaystalbert.
Winners will be chosen based on a random draw and announced publicly on the St. Albert Farmers’ Market social media and website.
