The annual St. Albert Tigers’ Tournament kicked off this weekend at Legion Memorial Ball Park at 8 p.m. between the hosting St. Albert Tigers and the St. Albert Midget AAA.
Five teams from across Alberta will compete on the field this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in exciting tournament action. The Fort Saskatchewan A’s, the Confederation Park Cubs, and the St. Albert Tigers from the Sunburst League will take on the St. Albert Midget AAA and the Blue Willow Angels in a round robin free-for-all.
The Blue Willow Angels are tournament newcomers and are made up of Edmonton and St. Albert players from the North Central Alberta Baseball League (NCABL). They have no relation to the Blue Willows Invitational baseball tournament held last year at Telus field.
“There is no cost to attend any of the games and for once, it looks like it will be a beautiful weekend,” said Brad Wolansky, program coordinator for Baseball Alberta.
The Tigers’ Tournament has been rained out in five of the last six years but fans are optimistic. The Weather Network is calling for sunshine and warm weather all weekend long.
There are full concession services at the games operating alongside daily beer gardens. The gardens will be selling $3 beers and open at 11 a.m.
Tigers’ fans will be able to buy team apparel at the games but sizes are limited.
All nine of the remaining games will be held at Legion Memorial Park and the final match will start at 5 p.m. Sunday night.
