The St. Albert Drillers dropped three straight games in a weekend tournament between the Junior Ladies division A and B champs.

On Friday night the Drillers met the hosting Saints at Beaumont arena and lost a spirited one, 11-8.

Due to scheduling issues the Drillers could only field nine runners and looked slow in the first period. The Saints took full advantage and pulled ahead to an early 4-1 lead after one.

The intermission was just what the Drillers needed to refocus and they came out in the second with a vengeance, scoring two goals in under a minute and five in the period. By the second intermission the score was 7-6 for the Saints.

Emotions boiled over in the third period with both teams picking up fighting majors late in the game. The Saints potted a few more goals and held on to take the 11-8 win home.

Addie Hobbins and Jennifer Gardner netted three goals each for the Saints and looked fantastic on their home field.

On Saturday morning the Drillers took on Division A champs and tournament favourites the Titans.

Two more players showed up and the Drillers were able to field 11 runners but it wasn’t enough to get the win. The Titans showed why they were the division champs by running over the Drillers 13-1.

St. Albert came out a little bit flat in the first and paid for it by conceding seven goals to the talented Titans before the first break.

The Drillers had much more disciplined second and third periods but the scoring gap was too much to overcome. Marie Eve Gautier scored the Drillers’ only goal of the game with less than a minute left in the period.

Late Saturday night the Drillers lost another close one in their last game of the tournament. This time it was an 11-8 loss to the Senior Bandits.

The Drillers came out strong but ran into a hot player and found themselves down 4-2 at the first intermission.

Raylene Robinson scored three goals in under three minutes for the Bandits and looked unstoppable on the field. She added to her total with another goal in the second and four assists during the game for an eight-point night.

The Drillers came back and won the second period 4-3 but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

Drillers’ manager Tom Perry said he was proud of how his players played this season and that he was looking forward to next year.
