The 25th annual Brick Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament features three St. Albert players on the Team Brick Alberta roster.

Cale Ashcroft, Levi Fesyk and captain Matt Savoie will skate for Team Brick Alberta in next week’s tournament at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace.

Teams consisting of top-level nine-and 10-year-olds from across Canada and the United States will challenge for the championship trophy.

Team Brick Alberta is slotted in division two with the California 04’s, Toronto Pro Hockey, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Jr. Blackhawks, Connecticut Yankees and Team Pennsylvania.

Division one includes the Toronto Bulldogs (20-1-1 record as the three-time defending champions), B.C. Junior Canucks (2013 finalists), Boston Junior Bruins, Minnesota Blades, Saskatchewan Jr. Pats, Montreal Ice Storm and Winnipeg Junior Jets.

The first game for Team Brick Alberta is Monday against Connecticut at 12:30 p.m.

The final is July 6.

AFL Stars

Tonight at 6 p.m. the St. Albert Stars huddle up in Fort McMurray against the expansion Monarchs in the Alberta Football League.

Both teams are 1-2.

Last weekend the Stars lost 26-10 to the Calgary Wolfpack in the Cow Town.

The next home game is July 19 against the Grande Prairie Drillers (3-0) at 2 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.

Telus Field DH

Telus Field is home base for the midget AA St. Albert Cardinals in Sunday’s exhibition doubleheader.

The Cardinals are up to bat against the Leduc Giants at 2 p.m. and the South Jasper Place Jays at 5 p.m.

The Cardinals are 5-1 in the second of three rounds to determine the provincial qualifiers and 21-1-1 overall after blanking the Sherwood Park Athletics 7-0 Tuesday at Strathcona Athletic Park.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the first three innings on the strength of two of the A’s five errors in the contest.

Jordan Scott’s RBI single and Tanner McLean Poll’s two-run single got the Cardinals rolling early.

Mason Libich also singled twice and Conor Bronson scored three runs.

The Cardinals outhit the home team 7-1.

McLean-Poll tossed a one-hitter while mowing down nine batters and walking four over five innings. Mitchell King pitched the last two innings.
