An unconfirmed report of a youth with a knife put two elementary schools under "hold and secure" Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., St. Albert RCMP responded to an unconfirmed report that a Grade 8 male student may have had a knife in the playground area behind Albert Lacombe Elementary School.
The school was under "hold and secure" when police arrived. Lesson plans for the day continued, but students and staff were not allowed to leave the school, said Const. M-J Burroughs with St. Albert RCMP. The protective measure is less serious than a lockdown.
Wild Rose Elementary School also put their school in a "hold and secure" state for precautionary reasons. All students were accounted for.
Police located the youth around 1:30 p.m. near Sir George Simpson Junior High School. He was taken into custody without incident. Police did not find a knife, or any weapon, on him.
The youth's name and where he attends school cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
No charges have been laid as the investigation is still ongoing.
