The St. Albert Tigers will show their stripes this weekend at the Sunburst Baseball League tournament in Fort Saskatchewan.
Friday’s score between the Tigers (2-6) and Confederation Park Cubs (6-4) was unavailable at press time.
On Saturday the Tigers play the defending provincial senior AAA champion Red Deer Riggers (9-0) at 12 p.m. and the host Fort Saskatchewan A’s (2-6) at 6 p.m.
Sunday the Tigers face the Parkland White Sox (3-6) at 3 p.m.
The Tigers are coming off a 9-5 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday at Legion Memorial Park. Darren Adams made his first start of the season and allowed one run in four innings. Dan Curtis slugged a home run and Joey Carr belted out two hits.
The next league game is July 1 against the Riggers in Red Deer at 7:30 p.m.
Erik Sabrowski struck out 11 batters in six innings and Dylan Gates drove home two runs as the St. Albert Cardinals extended their winning streak to eight games in Wednesday’s 8-0 shutout of SEEBA 2 in the NorWest Midget AAA Baseball League.
Sabrowski didn’t walk a batter while giving up four hits as the Cardinals improved to 18-2 in league play. Jared Roddelt pitched the seventh against SEEBA 2 (8-12).
Gates, the 2013 Baseball Alberta bantam AAA player of the year, singled and doubled, scored once and stole two basses as the Cardinals outhit the visitors 11-4.
Connor Burns batted 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Mat Brisson went 2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Tanner Karpinski also stroked two hits.
This weekend the Cardinals are competing in the 11th annual Peter DeVries Invitational Tournament at John Fry and Goldstick parks.
League play resumes Wednesday for last year’s Tier 1 provincial finalists and Western Canadian gold medallists against the Spruce Grove White Sox (8-6) at 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
Monday the St. Albert Senior Cardinals host the Edmonton Blues in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association. The first pitch is 6:45 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park. The Cardinals are 2-1 and the Expos are 3-1.
This past week the Cardinals lost 4-3 in 10 innings to the first-place Spruce Grove Eagles (4-1) at Henry Singer Park and Thursday’s game against the Edmonton Codgers (0-2) at Footz Field was rained out.
The last win for the Cardinals was 4-2 against the host Westlock Red Lions (1-1) June 11. John Spaans threw three perfect innings for the win and Dave Edwards closed out the game with a shutout inning to earn the save.
The St. Albert Junior Cardinals are gunning for their third consecutive victory in the North Central Alberta Baseball League in Tuesday’s home game against the Edmonton Blackhawks.
Start time is 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
The Cardinals are 3-6 and the Blackhawks are 5-2.
The last game for the Cardinals was Tuesday’s 6-3 decision against the Edmonton Indians (2-6) in St. Albert.
Last weekend the Cardinals snapped a six-game losing streak by sweeping the last-place Sturgeon Paladins (1-8) by scores of 10-5 and 12-11 at Archie Jenkins Park in Bon Accord.
