SARFC matches

Tonight at 7 p.m. the St. Albert Rugby Football Club women’s team will ruck and maul against Crude/West in the Edmonton Rugby Union spring league.

The match was switched from Ellerslie to the Nor’Westers fields.

SARFC and Crude/West won their respective season openers. SARFC equaled last year’s point total in eight division two matches in the 67-0 drubbing of the Rockers and Crude/West beat the Grande Prairie Sirens 34-10.

Thursday in the Alberta Cup fixtures the SARFC premier men duke it out with the Clansmen at 7 p.m. at Airway Park.

Last year the first 15 defeated the Clan twice in three tilts while going 8-6 overall as provincial finalists. The Clan finished 7-6 overall.

On May 24 the firsts visit the provincial champion Calgary Hornets and at Alpine field SARFC hosts the second division men’s Pirates at 12:30 p.m. and the lady Sirens at 2 p.m.

Early Bird

The annual St. Albert Minor Baseball Association’s Early Bird tournament starts Friday at 6:30 p.m. in all six divisions.

Legion Memorial Park, Meadowview Diamonds and Stony Plain are the venues for the 46-team, 85-game schedule.

Monday’s finals are 1 p.m. for peewee AA at Legion park and 3 p.m. for midget AA, bantam AAA and peewee AAA at Legion and bantam AA and mosquito AA at Meadowview.

SAMBA, the 2013 Baseball Alberta large association of the year, is represented in every division with eight Cardinals’ teams in total at Early Bird.

Victoria Classic

The Victoria Day Classic tournament, hosted by the St. Albert Soccer Association, kicks off Friday at 6:15 p.m.

Sixty-eight teams (30 boys and 38 girls), including 13 St. Albert Impact teams (six boys and seven girls), are entered.

The boys’ divisions are U10 (seven vs. seven), U12 Tier 2 (eight vs. eight) U14 Tier 1 and 2 and U16 Tier 1-2.

The girls’ divisions are U12 Tier 1 and 2 (eight vs. eight), U14 Tier 2, U16 Tier 1 and 2 and U18 Tier 2-3.

Out of province teams hail from Saskatoon.

Field locations are Riel Recreation Park, Eldorado, Salisbury, Erin Ridge and Larose.

This is the third year for a joint boys’ and girls’ tournament after SASA hosted the girls during the May long weekend for 27 years and the boys during the Canada Day long weekend for 39 years.
