Rising country music star Tim Hicks and hall of famer Michelle Wright will perform at this year’s Rainmaker Rodeo.
Hicks is a 2014 Juno award nominee and Wright is a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
“Tim Hicks is probably the hottest new festival artist,” said concert director Patrick Dower of the St. Albert Kinsmen. “He’s pretty popular right now.”
The country artists will perform on Saturday, May 24.
Hicks made his debut with the single Get By in January 2013, and has since ruled the digital charts. He was named the number one selling digital Canadian country artist overall and the most played debut country artist in 2013.
Earlier this year, Hicks garnered two Juno nominations for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Country Album of the Year. He has since announced multiple festival dates in 2014.
Michelle Wright has been prominent in the Canadian country music scene since 1988 when she released her debut CD Do Right By Me. She’s since sold nearly two million albums, collected more than 40 major awards, and was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
Dower said festival organizers are very proud to have these artists perform at the rodeo. Other musicians who will perform that night include Jake Mathews and Sarah Beth Keeley.
“We are very excited to have them,” said Dower. “You think about it, like Tim Hicks playing at all these other festivals, and then choosing the Rainmaker to play at. It’s very high praise for the actual Rainmaker.”
Doors to the Rainmaker Country Music fest will open at 6 p.m. at 47 Riel Dr. The concert tent will include a beverage area. No minors are allowed inside the tent.
Tickets can be purchased ahead of the event for $59.99 (incl. GST) at ticketmaster.ca. Tickets at the door will be $69.99.
Tickets can also be purchased at the Crown & Tower Pub in St. Albert and all The Beer Hunter locations. Buying outlet tickets will save up to $12 in service fees.
