Reaching dog park a perilous trek

Effective September 1, 2014, the City of St. Albert has established dog parks, which is a great idea to have selected dog parks.

However I am concerned that in order for me to get to the closest dog park I will have to cross Sir Winston Churchill Avenue at a non-lighted crosswalk. I am nervous.

Why, you ask? This morning (April 3), I pushed the walk light at Sir Winston Churchill Avenue and Fairview Boulevard, waited for the walk light and crossed the road. I wear a reflector vest and my dog has a lighted collar so we should be seen.

A yellow Jeep was heading towards Boudreau and should have seen the red light, however, we just made it across and the Jeep went right through the red light.

Now you can see why I am nervous about crossing at a non-lighted crosswalk. This is not the first time that we have almost been hit in a lighted crosswalk. I am out at 5:30 a.m. so in the winter it is very dark and, believe me, drivers do not travel at 50 kilometres an hour and they certainly don't like stopping for anyone or anything.
