This is to follow the article by Victoria Paterson on St. Albert ranking No. 1 (St. Albert Gazette, March 15).

St. Albert ranking No. 1 on the MoneySense list is an honour to your pioneers and their mentality.

When our pioneers came, not long ago, first they had to dig a hole in the ground to protect themselves from the elements of their first winter. Then they built their own cabin, grew their own food and kept improving their lives out of their sweat and blood.

However, as they dug the hole, built their cabin, grew their food and kept improving their lives, they kept an eye on their neighbours to see if they needed help.

Then, joining hands with their neighbours, they saw what had to be done to improve the lives of the community and they built schools, infirmaries, bridges and more in a friendly and family respect.

Keeping alive and strengthening our St. Albert pioneer mentality would insure that we would always live in a city where friends and families would always thrive.

Francis Lopez, St. Albert
