Politicians act with integrity

It appears to me that in today’s society the majority of people are turned off by politicians, the disenchantment stemming from a sense that all too often we cannot believe what they say, or that they have a herd mentality to unquestioningly follow their leader.

Thus it was heartening last year to follow our MP Brent Rathgeber’s principled position against his own caucus.

More recently in our local civic arena, the courageous stand taken by councillors Cam MacKay and Sheena Hughes has earned my respect and admiration.

In spite of considerable pressure (including an editorial in the Gazette) both MacKay and Hughes insisted on representing citizens’ valid interests, followed through on election promises and, most importantly, kept their word as they acted with integrity.

How wonderfully refreshing. Thank you Cam and Sheena.
