RCMP are looking for at least one attacker after a St. Albert man was shot and stabbed in Cold Lake on Tuesday.
Around 8 p.m. on Mar. 4, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a call at a rural property north of the City of Cold Lake where a man had been shot in the lower leg and stabbed in his torso.
The 24-year-old man from St. Albert was treated at a local health centre before being transported to an Edmonton hospital where he is still recovering. His injuries are serious and required surgery, said Sgt. Brent Sawatzky with Cold Lake RCMP, but are not life threatening.
Police believe the incident may be related to an alleged altercation earlier in the day at a Walmart parking lot in Cold Lake.
Sawatzky said officers are still trying to determine what happened but the investigation suggests this was not a not a random act. It is believed that the victim and assailant(s) may know each other.
“There are still a lot of unanswered questions,” he said. “There hasn't been a lot of cooperation from the victim or the one witness, but there is still significant follow up to do.”
Cold Lake RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in identifying those responsible for the incident at the rural residence as well as the altercation at the Walmart parking lot, as well as any other information that could would further advance this investigation.
