Chamber gala to feature tropical theme

Promising the sights and sounds of the Caribbean to cure any tough case of the winter blues, the 2014 chamber gala invites the St. Albert business community for “An Evening under the Stars.”
The annual event is a celebration of local businesses and – this year – promises tropical entertainment with a steel drum ensemble and fire dancers, said Lynda Moffat, president of the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce.
“Last year our theme was Mardi Gras and it was really, really fun,” Moffat said. “And this year our theme will be very tropical.”
The business end of the evening will feature the swearing in of new chair Paul Quantz, and first vice-chair Barry Bailey.
Moffat said the chamber decided to keep business to a minimum at this year’s gala so speeches by Paul Quantz and the outgoing chamber chair Lynn Carolei will be printed in the program.
She added that Quantz, a St. Albert lawyer, will be a great asset to the chamber as he is very knowledgeable about business policy.
“That’s where our organization is putting a lot of focus this year,” she said. “His leadership is going to be quite exceptional when it comes to bringing about results in that policy area, following on the heels of some excellent work of his predecessors.”
The evening will also feature music by the 5 AM band and a live auction for a piece of art by artist Lewis Lavoie. The painting will be created that same evening.
Tickets are on sale now for $125 (or $950 for a table of eight) until Jan. 27. Moffat said the chamber decided to lower the price (last year it was $140) to allow for more people to attend.
The chamber gala will be held Feb. 1 at the Enjoy Centre from 6 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. To register contact the chamber office at 780-458-2833 or go to stalbertchamber.com/events.
