Metro Edmonton high school basketball resumes league play next week after the Christmas break.
Tuesday in division one varsity women at 6:30 p.m. the St. Albert Skyhawks (1-1) visit the Edmonton Christian Lions (0-3) and the Paul Kane Blues (2-0) host the Archbishop Jordan Scots (0-3).
Wednesday at 5 p.m. the Skyhawks entertain the Bev Facey Falcons (4-0) and the Blues travel to play the Harry Ainlay Titans (3-0).
In the 4A rankings the Skyhawks Ė winners of the last four 3A provincials and two-time defending metro premier (division one) champions are 7-1 overall as the Mike Dea Classic and REB tournament champs Ė are No. 2 behind the Chinook Coyotes of Lethbridge.
The Blues are one of five 4A honourable mentions.
In division two varsity womenís pool B action Tuesday the Sturgeon Spirits (0-1) welcome the St. Joseph Saints (1-0) at 5 p.m. and Bellerose Bulldogs (1-0) play the host M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs (0-0) at 6:30 p.m.
In division one varsity men, Sturgeon visits the Jasper Place Rebels (2-1) Monday at 5 p.m. and the St. Francis Xavier Rams (1-2) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday the Blues (1-1) hook up with the Rebels at 5 p.m. at Paul Kane, followed by the Titans (4-0) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harry Ainlay.
Sturgeon is ranked No. 2 in 3A and the Blues are unranked in 4A.
The division two varsity menís pool B schedule Tuesday at 5 p.m. features Bellerose (0-1) at the Spruce Grove Panthers (0-1) and the Skyhawks (1-0) at St. Joseph (1-0).
The Skyhawks are ranked No. 6 in 3A.
Meanwhile, Paul Kane is hosting a menís and womenís tournament starting Thursday.
The St. Albert Flyers are back on the ice Monday in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. against CAC United Cycle at Millwoods Arena.
At the Christmas break the Flyers (11-4-5) were second and CAC (9-8-2) was eighth in the north standings.
The St. Albert Raiders play their first game of the new year on Wednesday in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. against the Southside Athletic Club at Akinsdale Arena.
The Raiders (12-8-3) and Southside (12-9-3) are tied for fifth in the north.
The Raiders entered the Christmas break as the No. 1 defensive team in the north and second overall in the AMHL with 52 goals against.
