Warming up to the spirit of Christmas, the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce is getting ready to celebrate ahead of the big day at their annual Christmas luncheon.

This year’s luncheon will be held on Dec. 11 at the St. Albert Inn and Suites. Member services director Jennifer McCurdy said the event is unlike other business luncheons, held to give members and their staff an opportunity to celebrate, and be celebrated.

“It’s more of a celebration for our members, a Christmas celebration,” she said. “So we don’t have a guest speaker but we do have Mrs. Claus this year – because our chair is female – and we have door prizes and carollers.”

McCurdy added that the luncheon is collecting toys and non-perishable food items for the St. Albert Kinette Club in collaboration with the local food bank. There will also be elves serving wine and door prizes handed out by Mrs. Claus.

The Christmas luncheon will also be the last one held before the new year.

The next luncheon will be on Jan. 15 at the Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club, presenting the 2014 economic outlook.

“Typically we have one of the heads from the banks to talk about their take on what is coming down the pipes for the year,” McCurdy said. “This year the speaker will be Ian Glassford, chief financial officer for Servus Credit Union.”

The January luncheon will be followed by the State of the City address presented by Mayor Nolan Crouse on February 12 at the Enjoy Centre.

The St. Albert Inn and Suites is located at 156 St. Albert Trail. The Christmas luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Members pay $35 ($40 for non-members), while groups of four pay $125 or $250 for a table of eight. Reservations can be made by contacting or at 780-458-2833.
