Think Tank is distasteful

Years ago, I had opportunity to spend some time in the (then) Soviet Union. I had communicated with some young scientists there and it was sad to see how they were controlled. Sometimes they spoke to me on condition of anonymity. When I remarked how lucky I felt to be a free Canadian, an American colleague told me that if I learned nothing else there, that feeling was itself worth the trip. “Anonymity” might sometimes be warranted, but in a free speech situation, I find it distasteful.
Some time ago, we had the “Spirit of St. Albert,” another sad experience. I wonder if the so-called “Think Tank” is somehow related. I am by no means suggesting they are communists, fascists, or any other such critters. Merely distasteful.
St. Albertans ought to reflect on the freedoms and values we all share. Thanksgiving is a good time for that!
