How we dress says a lot about us

With regards to the current discussion about dress rules and freedom, we should start with the one principle which liberal society is based upon: does wearing this or that this cause harm?
If it's a burka, the harm seems to be done only to the woman wearing it, and this distresses people looking at it. There is also a case against wearing even a very small weapon.
But there is no harm in outer signs of faith per se. They are our way of presenting ourselves to others and this is the opposite of the concealing burka. We should at least insist that anyone who wants to dictate what someone is not to wear must prove that it is harmful.
If everyone wears the same religious dress we could argue that this looks more theocratic than secular, but if everyone wears something different and most don't wear anything religious it looks like a free society.
