We need leaders, not managers

I am very disappointed in the platforms of the candidates for St. Albert council.
Not one of them appeared to stress their “servant leadership” abilities. Perhaps I overlooked it in the fine print.
Servant leadership is a philosophy that outstanding people follow. Some of the best organizations in the world adhere to it. They also acknowledge that there is no room for selfies in following it.
Managers are a dime a dozen. Leaders are rare. As Peter Drucker put it: “Managers do things right. Leaders do the right things.”
The Conference Board of Canada and numerous other organizations that study and promote outstanding leadership agree on one thing. The most critically important trait to look for in 21st century leadership is humility. Servant leadership promotes it. Perhaps St. Albert council future hopefuls may have this and other servant leadership traits by the 22nd century.
