The St. Albert Rugby Football Club’s U17 juniors and premier men pound the pitch today at Ellerslie Rugby Park.
At 12:30 p.m. SARFC and the Nor’Westers hook up in the U17 Edmonton Rugby Union semifinals.
SARFC is 8-0 and the Nor’Westers, last year’s ERU and provincial champions, are 2-5.
Last month SARFC hammered the Nor’Westers 76-7.
The winner will play the Clansmen (5-3) or Druids-Lep/Tigers (4-4) in the ERU final next Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Ellerslie.
At 4 p.m. SARFC battles the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Cup fixtures.
In the premier table SARFC is fourth at 4-5 and the Canucks are sixth at 2-7.
Last month the first 15 beat the Canucks 37-17 in Calgary.
The firsts close out league play next Saturday against the Strathcona Druids (5-5) at Ellerslie and Sept. 7 against the Clansmen (6-3) at Airway Park. Game times are 4 p.m.
AFL final tonight
The Alberta Football League final between the St. Albert Stars and Calgary Gators has been rescheduled for tonight in Calgary from Sunday at Genesis Place in Airdrie.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Shouldice Athletic Park. Admission is $5 and 12 and under get in free.
The Stars are 5-3 in their inaugural AFL season and the Gators are 8-0.
In the last game before the playoffs the Gators jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and hung on to defeat the Stars 17-12 in Calgary.
The AFL champion will head east to play the Sault Ste. Marie Steelers or the Montreal Transit of the National Football Conference for the Canadian title.
This weekend the Capital District Minor Football Association kicks off its pre-season jamboree schedule.
Today the atoms are in Fort Saskatchewan and Sherwood Park and Sunday the peewees are in Spruce Grove.
The bantam jamborees start Monday. At Riel Recreation Park the St. Albert Fury huddle up in controlled scrimmages against the Spruce Grove Cougars, Millwoods Grizzlies and Fort Saskatchewan Lightning from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Jamborees in the bantam, peewee and atom divisions continue next week.
The St. Albert Minor Football Association is fielding six CDMFA teams: Fury and 49ers in bantam, Colts and Riders in peewee and Buccaneers and Vikings in atom.
