Please don't drop off boxes of books

The SHAVA (Sturgeon Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Association) Bookstore is located in Grandin Park Plaza. With thanks and appreciation to the Grandin Park Plaza for donating the store space; to our amazing volunteers; to the kind and generous donations of books; and to the many customers who patronize our bookstore, all funds raised are donated to our Sturgeon Community Hospital.
SHAVA is unable to accept every donated book and magazine due to space limitations or the age and condition of items. Signs are posted on the windows detailing accepted donations and a request to not leave books outside the bookstore when it is closed.
Sometime Friday evening (August 2) or early Saturday morning a donation of 25 boxes of books was left outside the bookstore. On the civic holiday, Monday, volunteers had to be called in to sort the book donation. A total of 13 boxes of books had to be taken to recycle as they were unacceptable due to condition, subject or age. This required additional volunteers to take the boxes to the recycle depot on Tuesday.
Unfortunately this is not the only time this dumping of items has occurred but it is the largest. Incidents like this place a lot of extra work on our volunteers.
SHAVA accepts all donations within the posted guidelines and appreciates donors adhering to them.
Thank you to the community for your continued support of the SHAVA Bookstore.
