Re: LRT planning is premature, Gazette Feb. 27, 2013.

Kudos to letter writer Ted Durham for a well written and thoughtful article on the idiocy of looking at spending untold millions of dollars on a pie-in-the-sky concept of providing a probable small ridership of St. Albert residents into Edmonton on the LRT.

Given that federal and provincial governments are severely scaling back expenditures, where does city council, and the one-dimensional councillor leading the pack, think all the money to construct this boondoggle is coming from. Certainly not from the residents of St. Albert who are already severely overtaxed because of the inability or unwillingness of council to rein in expenditures and conduct business in a more appropriate way. Those councillors who consistently attempt to rein in expenses are, unfortunately, voted down in most cases.

If Mayor Crouse and council think that the LRT expenditure is such a great idea I challenge them to hold a plebiscite, in conjunction with this year’s municipal election. Then we’ll see just how many of our residents back this outrageous idea to strip even more money from our pockets

So, council, do you have what it takes to bring yet another boondoggle directly to all the residents of St. Albert?

Ray Corner, St. Albert
