To the gentleman who drives down Gloucester Drive in his motorized wheelchair, please take steps to protect yourself from being run over.

Your chair and your clothing are typically dull in colour and provide no visual contrast with the road, making it difficult to see you. I routinely drive 10 km/h below the limit on our street and today did not see you until I was about 20 feet away from you. Had I been speeding, as many in our neighbourhood do, you'd have been hit.

I personally think you should stay off public roadways, although I sympathize with your need to move around independently. I implore you to wear a reflective vest and add a fluorescent flag to your chair.

Freida Long, St. Albert
