Salt cleanup too costly for too little

I thought I should take the time to inform our city mayor and council of something they obviously don't know. They are the ones who are spending $800,000 of our hard-earned tax dollars to "clean up" the salt storage facility. It seems the salt in the soil is making its way to the river.
Please be informed that most of the salt the city road maintenance crews pour on the roads each and every winter makes its way to the river when the snow melts in the spring! Just like it does in every city in Canada that is situated on a river. Why does Alberta Environment single out St. Albert?
Did anyone ask the city manager how many tonnes is poured onto the city streets in comparison?
I agree that all of the salt is not good for our rivers, but to spend $800,000 to clean up 2000 cubic yards at $400.00 per cubic yard to move dirt with a little salt in it? Time to tighten the purse strings!
