Get second opinion on car repairs

My wife likes Hyundai and she has been happy with her Hyundai Sante Fe for some time now.

I had the afternoon off so I brought it to the dealer in Edmonton for an oil change. After waiting an hour for the change, I was told to come over to a table, sit down and they will go over their findings. I was hoping they were going to say that they found the oil and filter and changed it.

The service advisor passed me a quote for $4,000. He told me that all these findings had to be fixed right away. Some of the work I had had done in December, such as a wheel alignment, but they made sure to quote me $600 to perform it again. My response? Of course it was no.

However, what did cross my mind was, how many people get put in the same situation and, fearful, say yes? I hope this letter makes people second guess as we are all told to get a second opinion from a doctor. I have built many project cars, and gone are the days for me to be able to work on the computer on four wheels my wife drives, but I will look at all these findings and let my mechanic in St. Albert have a chuckle over the 12-page novel I was given!
