I actually can't believe that council is even debating the creation of a bike skills park, while we have fencing around Lacombe Lake Park that is set to remain until 2014.

That park is used by hundreds of people each week and the fact that the shoreline is now considered unsafe (really, people?) is a matter that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. The $200,000 in funding that is being directed toward a bike skills park should be used for fixing the lakeshore. Why is this not obvious to council? Or is it one of those ridiculous situations where the funding from one pot can't be used for another project?

As for the locations being considered, I'm more than a little disappointed. There are multiple reasons to discount Liberton and thankfully, Seven Hills is now out of the running. The fact that everyone is scratching his or her heads about where to locate the proposed park, indicates to me that it simply isn't a good idea anywhere.

As well, I'm opposed to creating new infrastructure that will require upkeep and insurance on behalf of the city, for a very small group of users. Is there something wrong with kids just riding up and down the hills on their own? I know, radical idea, but one that should be explored before we take tax dollars and create a new white elephant.
