Much of St. Albert was in the dark Friday afternoon when a power outage hit over the lunch hour.

Jennifer McGowan, spokesperson for FortisAlberta, said 1,200 customers across the city were affected.

“It looks like we had a problem with a piece of equipment just outside the substation,” she said.

AltaLink spokesperson Scott Schreiner said two transformers failed at the Calder substation just after 12:30 p.m., affecting 2,500 customers in St. Albert and north Edmonton.

Power was restored for most customers within 15 minutes although some customers, including half of Campbell Business Park, spent up to two hours in the dark.

Epcor reported outages in Edmonton from 156 St. to 170 St. and 100 Ave. to 153 Ave.
