SpotlightBy: | Posted: Sunday, Jan 13, 2013 06:00 am Last call for Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts Gala nomineesDo you know a very talented artist who deserves a big pat on the back? Then nominate him/her for a Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts award. With the nomination deadline fast approaching next weekend, the clock is ticking down. “This is just a reminder to people the deadline is coming up in case they’ve forgotten,” says gala chair Nancy Watt. The ceremony salutes performers, filmmakers, visual artists, fibre artists and literary artists. No artistic discipline is shut out of the process. This year, the mayor’s office presents eight awards. They include Lifetime Achievement Award, Emerging Artist Award, Youth Artist Award, Excellence in Teaching Award and Established Artist Award. In addition, the gala recognizes arts advocates and groups through the Corporate Patrons Award, the Arts Leadership Award and the Community Group Award. All winners receive an original piece of art from a St. Albert artist. As well, all categories with the exception of Corporate Patrons take home a $1,000 cash prize. “There are so many people who are either artists or supporting the arts which makes St. Albert such a vibrant place to live. This is a chance to celebrate what they do,” Watt said. Nomination forms can be found at www.stalbert.ca/mayors-art-gala and received no later than Friday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. The gala is Tuesday, March 19.
