It’s about time! The long awaited revisions to the animal control bylaw are now in the works. Unfortunately the law does not go far enough. Councillors who used common sense and voted for the improved bylaw deserve a gold star.

People walking on a sidewalk or in a park alone or with the pets should not have to be fearful when approached by a strange dog. There were people and pets that required medical treatment because of dog attacks. It is time to make it safe for the public and their pets. The best way to do this is to keep a leash on the dogs and laws to control them.

Now our mayor wants council to reconsider the proposed bylaw. Now why is it so important for him to seek a new vote? Are the five councillors that voted for the change going be intimidated by him and change their minds? Let’s hope common sense prevails over intimidation.

What do you think the mayor’s reaction would be if a child were to get seriously injured by a dog on the loose?
