Keep our green spacesBy: | Posted: Saturday, Sep 15, 2012 06:00 am In the past two Gazettes there have been two articles that I find are taking the green spaces already ingrained in the community out of the control of the neighbourhoods. Number one was an article about the announcement of a bike park location. There was a great BMX park in Riel Park away from the hustle and bustle of St. Albert Trail where I assume lots of riders will be making their way across to get over here. How much of our park is going to be converted to this kind of facility and who is going to monitor it for vandalism? Number two is a public notice out, which means it's going through no matter what the public says, for a monopole tower for Rogers to be located at 111 Liberton Dr. Twenty-five metre tower (about 84 feet) in the middle of town, hmmm. Towers produce microwaves – next to a bike park. Interesting. We also received a notice that we are getting a cross-country ski trail to cover the perimeter of Liberton Park. Now I may not know all of the facts right now but will be gathering information on all of the above and where and what is actually going to be done. The reason I purchased my home here is the fact that there is such a large green space available with no busy bustling stuff around. Anything else coming through we will be advised of? How much park will be left after all of the special interest groups get their hands on it? C. Piche, St. Albert Comments
