Throw yourself into the world of jazz, funk and blues with the Jesse Peters Trio as they launch the performance series for the Morinville Community Cultural Centre on Friday, September 28.

That’s just one of the exciting artists that cultural services manager Laurie Stalker will be announcing on Thursday at the centre’s open house.

Not only is Stalker launching the 2012-2013 performance series, but also the Morinville Community Services Department is officially unveiling their fall/winter community program guide.

“We wanted to do a department launch. This is a chance for the public to be in the building and we wanted the town to be aware of the services offered,” explained Stalker.

For the performance series launch, Stalker has booked six mainstage shows, five children’s shows and two special event shows. Tantalizing video clips offering a glimpse of the different acts is expected to highlight the event.

Ryan Telfar, the centre’s technical coordinator, will offer tours backstage and through the sound and lighting booths.

The event is also a chance for the public to meet Kerry Dawson, the new director of community services and Nick Valcourt, the new youth programming co-coordinator.

“This is an opportunity for the public to come and talk and let us know what they’d like for upcoming shows or other programming opportunities,” Stalker added.

Morinville pianist Rory Turner and a group of local flute players will provide the entertainment.

The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Formal programming starts at 5:45 p.m. The Morinville Community Cultural Centre is at 9502 – 100 Avenue.
