Bantam provincials

The St. Albert Cardinals are hosting the bantam competitive Tier I provincial championship this weekend at Legion Memorial Park.

Saturday in pool B round-robin action, the Cardinals play South Jasper Place Black at 9 a.m. and Grande Prairie at 3 p.m.

Acme, Strathmore and Red Deer are in pool B.

If there are no tiebreakers Sunday, the consolation final is at 9 a.m., the semifinals are at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the final goes at 6 p.m.

Friday’s festivities include a skills competition from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on the midget diamond. The opening ceremonies will also start at 5:30 p.m.

The Cardinals are 21-10 in league, exhibition and tournament action.

Cards in Okotoks

The St. Albert Cardinals are in Okotoks this weekend for the midget and bantam performance Tier I provincial championships.

The schedules are online at www.baseballalberta.com.

In the Norwest Midget AAA Baseball League the Cardinals finished sixth in the 11-team circuit at 15-16.

The overall record for the bantams is 34-8: 25-7 in league play (6-0 pre-June; 19-7 June/July), 7-1 in tournaments and 2-0 in exhibitions.

Peewee provincials

The peewee performance Tier I provincial championship starts Friday for the St. Albert Cardinals in Red Deer.

At 3 p.m. the Cardinals are up to bat against the Sherwood Park A’s.

Saturday’s game times are 9 a.m. against SEEBA and 3 p.m. against the Red Deer Braves.

The last round robin game for the Cardinals is Sunday against the Spruce Grove White Sox at 9 a.m.

Rugby road games

St. Albert’s second division men’s and women’s teams scrum down Thursday in the Edmonton Rugby Union.

The men (3-7) tackle the Leduc Crude (6-5) in Leduc and the women (0-4-1; 1-12-1 overall) play the Pirates (2-2; 6-7 overall) at the Pirates Rugby Club. Kickoff times are 7 p.m.

St. Albert Triathlon

Tuesday is the deadline to register online for the St. Albert Triathlon on Aug. 12.

So far 144 competitors have entered the annual event through EventsOnline.ca.

Last year 132 triathletes finished the sprint distance (750-metre swim, 20-kilometre and five-km run), 26 completed the try-a-tri (250m swim, 10-km bike and 2.5-km run) and seven sprint relay teams went the distance.

The triathlon starts at 7 a.m. at Fountain Park Recreation Centre. The awards ceremony goes at approximately 11 a.m.

Last year’s winner was Max King of Sherwood Park in one hour, one minute and 28 seconds.

Wietske Eikelenboom of St. Albert was the fastest female at 1:10:29 for 12th place overall.

The St. Albert Roadrunners and Triathlon Club is hosting the Triathlon Alberta-sanctioned race.
