Dylan Kremp not only saved the day for the Zone 5 Black Gold/Yellowhead boys’ soccer team, the St. Albert goalkeeper also scored the winning goal during penalty kicks in the gold-medal final at the Alberta Summer Games.

Kremp was the sixth shooter for Zone 5 before stepping in to stop the sixth Zone 3 Edmonton shooter to seal the deal in the 1-0 win.

“It was an incredible sports moment,” said Kevin Jones, the Zone 5 head coach from St. Albert.

Zone 5 outscored the opposition 12-1 to finish 4-0 at the Games last weekend in Lethbridge.

In total, 90 athletes from St. Albert and area competed for medals for Zone 5.

The bi-annual event for youth ages 11 to 17 in 15 sports featured more than 3,000 athletes from eight zones in Alberta.

The medal winners from St. Albert, Calahoo, Morinville and Sturgeon County are listed as follows.

ST. ALBERT

Gold

• Athletics – U17 female: Hayley Francois; 1,500m (4:57.73); U17 male: Tyler Lazarenko; 100m (11.23), medley relay (3:40.42).

• Basketball – female: Jamie Bain, Rachel McKenzie, Brielle Wise.

• Soccer – male: Marco Cupelli, Kyle Gamache, Nigel Harris, Thomas Hasal, Dylan Kremp, Christian Prefontaine, Martin Rudolf, Sam Smith-Ackerl, Aidan Steinke, Alejandro Suarez.

Silver

• Athletics – U15 female: Emma Curle and Sydney Parkinson, medley relay (4:27.76); U17 female: Hayley Francois, medley relay (4:22.19); U17 male: Tyler Lazarenko, 200m (23.15), 4x100m relay (44.54).

• BMX - 15 female race: Sarah Peacock (320); 13-14 female race: Cayleigh Van Staalduinen, (320).

• Triathlon – 12-13 male: Luke Hanson and Jonah Tanasiuk, super sprint team relay (26:23.94); 12-13 female: Hayley Basterash (37:22:00), super sprint team relay (26:23.95).

Bronze

• Athletics – U15 female: Emma Curle, 300m (43.07), 4x100m relay (53.12); Madelyn Curle, high jump (1.50m), pentathlon (2,289); U17 female: Hayley Francois, 800m (2:22.69).

• Swimming – category two female: Andrea Farmer, 200m breast (2:58.44), 4x50 medley relay (2:16.11), 4x100m medley relay (5:05.39).

Gold

• Softball – male: Lee Gadoury, Easton Patrick, Logan Petty, Dallas Routh, Darek Skinner, Derek Smith.

MORINVILLE

Gold

• Canoe-Kayak – Kassandra Reaume (Zone 6): 11-14 female K-1 slalom, 11-14 C-2 wildwater.

• Softball – male: Sidney Campbell-Potts.

Silver

• Canoe-Kayak – Kassandra Reaume (Zone 6): 11-14 slalom team race.

STURGEON VALLEY

Gold
