Article on tap water was refreshing

Kudos to Kevin Ma for his feature article interviewing with Steve Hrudey about the misinformation on the safety of tap water for drinking. (Jan 28. Gazette: ‘Don’t fear tap water.’)

In our age of environmental awareness and abundant information, the bottled water industry has taken advantage of a sense of paranoia surrounding our blessed tap water and the chlorine that is a integral part of its makeup. Because we use it to flush the toilet then it must not be clean enough to drink according to the bottled water and tap filtration advocates. In fact the opposite is true — because we use it to drink, then it must be a waste to use it to flush the toilet.

One thing the article does not highlight enough is the unsung hero which is each and every water treatment operator. These water professionals are responsible for the health and wellbeing of more people than any health care professional.
