We aren't paying the mayor to play investigator
I have to agree with Barb Freysteinson and Todd Murray. I was appalled that the mayor would stoop so low as to publicly announce the past errors of a local business owner.
It also indicates our arrogant mayor does not believe that some people can, and do, learn from their mistakes and try to change for the better. I also noted that the mayor himself did not mention the crime occurred in the Northwest Territories. It was the St. Albert Gazette investigation with the police that brought the whole story forward.
All this comes from a man who spouts that we need more businesses in St. Albert and yet does a better job of refusing them due to the nature of their business or the location. A businessman was declined a spot next to Servus Place because the city will need that area for future expansion of Servus Place. (The white elephant will cost forever). A sex/lingerie shop was given a “no not here.” Now the mayor thinks he’s being paid to play investigator to slam and chase out another (now past) business while also stepping on the toes of the Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club by using taxpayers’ money to open a city-owned Starbucks in Servus Place.
How does he actually expect people to want to open a business here with such underhanded actions?
I guarantee I would be opening my business in Edmonton where taxes are lower and the mayor doesn’t stick his nose in where it doesn’t belong, and the business license is not based on personal conflict. I thought a mayor’s role was to support the taxpayers and business owners who voted him in, not punish them nor push them away.
