RACE TIME – St. Vital Avenue was closed Sunda for the second annual Father's Day Soapbox Derby for boys and girls ages six to 12. Organized by the Spirit of St. Albert Society and Rock'n' August the event is a fundraiser for the Alberta Diabetes Foundation. There were a few rollovers during the event.
RACERS ANXIOUS – They’re ready. Three young drivers are anxious for their race to begin in the Father's Day Soapbox Derby that took place Sunday.
COLOURFUL ENTRY – Kelty Epp and her Miss Bee entry in the seven-year-old category of the second annual soapbox derby.
UPSIDE DOWN BUT FINE – The second annual Father's Day Soapbox Derby had its share of thrills, anxious moments, bumping cars and even a roll over. Fortunately, none of the young drivers, like this one who flipped right over, were injured in the event.
SMILING GRADS – Nechi Institute graduates are all smiles as they celebrate their graduation Saturday during the Journey to the Spirit powwow at Poundmaker’s Lodge.
FRIENDLY BROTHERS – Nasland Rattlesnake, 5, shares a special moment with his three-year-old brother Nayden as the two prepare to attend a graduation of their nephew at Poundmaker’s Lodge last Saturday. Poundmaker’s was the site of the Nechi Institute’s annual graduation ceremony. This year, for the first time, the ceremony included a powwow. Nechi trains counsellors and health-care workers how to treat people with addictions in culturally appropriate ways.
READY TO CELEBRATE – Nasland Rattlesnake, 5, is lifted up by his grandfather, Telly Rain, to see his reflection in a van's window while the two get ready for a graduation held at the Nechi Institute. Nechi was holding its first ever Journey to the Spirit powwow at Poundmaker’s Lodge last Saturday in celebration of this year's graduating class. Nechi trains health-care workers and counsellors to treat addictions in ways that are culturally appropriate.
STAGES OF READINESS – These three U7 youngsters have different looks of readiness as they get set for the start of their game in the St. Albert rugby club’s annual junior rugby festival last Saturday. The festival was for the 7-a-side flag rugby age group programs.
