St Albert Community EventsThe Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Art Galleries
Event Description:
Mezzanine Gallery: Aritist Kristina Steinbring's exhibit "Disappearing Sentinals" captures the changing Alberta landscape as rural life becomes less a way of life. The series of painted grain elevators focuses on the dwindling number of grain elevators left on the Alberta skyline. These once proud symbols of the prairies and the center of many farming communities are soon to be lost forever. The series of paintings reflect the feeling of the endless prairie and sky that is so typical of Alberta and give the illusion of the old "elevator row". Kristina's goal is to pay respect to this incredible piece of Alberta history.
Art on the Inside Gallery: Artist Susan Scott's exhibit "Painting Opens Heart" reflects how each image of the flowers she paints awakens her heart and portrays how returning to painting helped her in her treatment and recovery from Multiple Sclerosis and the anxiety and depression that accompanied this disease. Her paintings provide her with hope and comfort and a peace that helped her heart to open again to happiness. The purpose of her show and paintings are to give the viewer a window into her story and convey how painting has transported her from a world of pain and hopelessness into a world of beauty an hope.
The Blue Curve Gallery: The exhibit "Pathways" is presented by Alberta Artists with Brain Injury Society. Sudden, acquired brain injury affects and changes the lives of thousands of Albertans every year. The non-profit society is a resource for starting or doing art on a regular basis for brain injury survivors. The healing benefits of art therapy include cognitive healing, such as improved memory and concentration, physical healing, such as eye-hand coordination, emotional healing, such as self-expression, improved self-esteem and, social healing, such as increased social interaction and improved communication skills.Through the act of doing art, individuals express themselves and relearn who they are – their style, interests, likes and feelings. The art works vary from simple to outstanding without any judgments as the survivors advance along the path of discovery, and peaceful enjoyment – a benefit to the individuals, their families and the community showing Nov 16th to December 31st
